As a lifelong resident of Waterloo Region, I moved to the Township of Wilmot in 2022
with my spouse Janice (and our felines Maddie and Sammy) for the small town community
feel and larger lots where neighbours interact. This move allowed us to custom design and
build our home integrating our businesses and hobby interests.
At the age of 26 I acted as the general contractor on my own home in Woolwich Township
and worked to support my parents business, Woolner’s Catering, until their retirement.
Over the next four years I attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Wilfrid
Laurier University followed by a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from
McMaster University.
As an entrepreneur I became a Register Home Builder, in 1996, and have completed custom builds in
Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge, and Manneheim. This business draws on skills
including project financial budgets, supply sourcing and pricing, consultation with
clients and tradespeople, and follow up on projects. I have built 50-60 homes under the trade name of Black Walnut Homes.
As a Friend of K-W Community Spirit Lions I received a Helen Keller Fellowship in
recognition of volunteering my time to assist with charity bingo and other projects.
I also assist Janice in her efforts in fostering kittens and cats for the Waterloo Region
Chapter of Toronto Cat Rescue involving care and socializing in readiness for adoption.
As a Member of the Corkscrew Society I am actively involved in the making of wine from
grapes and juice and have achieved Grand Master Vitner from Amateur Wine Makers
of Ontario. This has also lead Janice and I to travel to many countries to visit wineries,
wine makers, and barrel rooms.
I look to become more involved with my community as Mayor of the Township of Wilmot
lending my finance background and leadership skills to work together with the Councillors
and Staff to navigate through the discourse currently happening.
