Economic Development

Creating and facilitating economic growth will be challenging.  The Highway 7 bypass to Guelph will generate more industrial and commercial space that has easy access to the major transportation corridors.  The problems of accessing the 401 from here via Kitchener is challenging and even dangerous and coming the other direction is the same.  The region is improving Trussler road from Bleams to the 7/8 ramps providing easier access to the 401, via Cedar Creek Rd.,  I have driven this many times and while slightly slower it appears to be much safer.

To attract business to invest in Wilmot we must get our house in order.  Business hates uncertainty.  They want stable taxes, a competent workforce and easy access to their inputs.  There are several inaccuracies on the Development Charges section of the Wilmot website that could cause confusion for someone trying to determine the charges on a non residential development.

I believe to attract investment we must analyze the townships strengths and weaknesses and seek out industries and companies that would benefit from our strengths.  The use of incentives could be explored to attract some businesses to get the ball rolling.
